The Community of Practice (CoP) Life Sciences is gaining momentum!
Our group brings together dedicated PMI members with expertise in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, lab technology, medical devices, and more – to share best practices and project management knowledge.
With three roundtables and one group working session already this year, our exchange is hands-on, insightful – and growing fast.
Project Profiles: A Valuable Knowledge Resource
As part of this year’s Group Working Sessions, we developed a series of Project Profiles — compact case studies in which members presented real-life projects from their professional practice along with their key challenges. The goal is to gain a clearer understanding of the diverse project and program types represented in our community and to systematically leverage this collective experience. This reveals recurring issues, such as in the areas of requirements definition, stakeholder management, or the use of agile methods. This open exchange offers valuable insights and enables the development of practical solutions, while also providing an opportunity to align these approaches with PMI’s recommended standards.
Project Types, Tools, and Soft Skills — A Systematic Approach
The assessment of project types in the life sciences sector is demanding and multifaceted. Our goal is to consolidate the broad expertise of our members and develop a shared understanding: Which project types are particularly relevant? Which tools — from AI to Agile — are being used? And which soft skills are crucial for project success?
Based on the collected project profiles, it has been possible to identify patterns and specific challenges. The next step is to link these findings with the knowledge areas of the PMBOK® Standard and continue evaluating them. In doing so, we are creating the foundation for practical recommendations and jointly defining best practices for project management in the life sciences sector.
