In the summer of 2025, PMI joins forces with Homeless Entrepreneur to send a strong message of social responsibility. We’re supporting The Great Walk – a Europe-wide initiative that shines a light on the challenges and potential of people without permanent housing.

20 Marathons, 5 Countries, 880 Kilometers 
The Great Walk is not a sports event – it's a mission with a social purpose. Two formerly homeless men, Andrew and Toby, will walk from Linz to Madrid in just 30 days. The 880-kilometer route, divided into 20 marathons, runs through Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain. This route is symbolic – highlighting the invisibility and daily challenges homeless people face, especially in the hot summer months when heat-related deaths significantly increase.

PMI: Leading Social Change 
Several European PMI Chapters – including Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain (Madrid and Barcelona), Poland, and Romania – are joining forces to support The Great Walk. Their shared goal: to amplify the initiative’s message across Europe and contribute expertise, networks, and visibility to ensure its success.

PMI is applying its project management expertise to provide strategic and communication support. The Chapters are actively involved by:

• Sharing the story and mission of The Great Walk through their channels and networks

• Engaging members, partners, and local communities to support the initiative

• Contributing strategic and communication know-how to maximize campaign impact

• Initiating fundraising campaigns and recruiting volunteers

PMI is demonstrating that project management goes beyond business goals – it can generate real social impact. The Great Walk is a prime example of “Project Management with Purpose”.

The PMI Germany Chapter will support the team along several stages of the walk through western Germany.
