The PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)® is one of the few certifications that doesn’t limit itself to a single framework like Scrum or SAFe – instead, it offers a wide-ranging methodological toolbox. Scrum is, of course, included, but so are Kanban, Extreme Programming, TDD, Lean, core principles of the agile movement, and much more. For project leads, coaches, and PMOs working in hybrid environments, this breadth delivers real value.

At the end of 2024, PMI completely modernized the credential. The updated exam content reflects current real-world requirements and focuses on four domains: Mindset, Leadership, Product, and Delivery. To pass, candidates must do more than just know the “buzzwords” – they need to demonstrate how to truly live agile principles and empower teams to deliver solutions.

Who is the PMI-ACP for?
It’s especially valuable for experienced practitioners already working with agile methods – for example, Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches, or PMP-certified professionals looking to broaden their skill set. But it’s also a logical next step for anyone introducing or supporting agility across multiple methods.

Key facts about the certification exam:

  • Eligibility: Secondary school degree + 24 months of agile work experience + 28 hours of agile training
  • Duration: 120 questions in 180 minutes
  • Format: Online or at a test center (via PMI’s testing partner Pearson VUE)
  • Validity: 3 years, renewable with 30 PDUs

Preparation? Absolutely.
PMI offers on-demand training, as well as classroom and online courses through Authorized Training Partners. Those who seek interaction will benefit most from group learning and live sessions.

Tip: PMI members can access many relevant resources for free (e.g., the Agile Practice Guide). These are useful not only for exam prep but also for day-to-day work.

Bottom line: The PMI-ACP certification isn’t an entry barrier – it’s a quality seal for well-rounded agile professionals. If you think and work in agile – or hybrid – ways, this is the right credential to prove your capabilities.
