Communities of Practice (CoPs) are topic-focused groups within PMI Germany Chapter in which members share and further develop their project experience. The focus is on exchanging insights on concrete challenges and developing approaches that can be applied directly in practice.
Within the Communities of Practice at PMI Germany Chapter, project experience is structured and continuously developed. The emphasis lies on the practical application of methods, concepts, and approaches in project management.
A Community of Practice is a group of members who exchange knowledge on a specific topic. The objective is to consolidate experience, enable mutual learning, and develop solutions that are effective in everyday project environments.
Background, structure, and development of the Communities of Practice are explained by Vice President Membership Jörg Glunde in a podcast with Thomas Wuttke: https://projektmanagementpodcast.com/cop/
The Communities of Practice are primarily designed for members of PMI Germany Chapter and are considered a member benefit. In justified cases, external subject matter experts may also be involved.
The communities meet on a monthly basis in online sessions. Current challenges are discussed and content is further developed collaboratively. The work is increasingly outcome-oriented, with results that are directly applicable in practice.
The outcomes take different forms:
- Topic-specific events and workshops, for example in the field of Artificial Intelligence
- Participation in international formats, such as through the CoP Life Sciences
- Seminar series, currently offered by the CoP IT Strategy
- Contributions to conferences such as the PM-Summit
- Working papers on current topics in project management
