Who is Agile Alliance?

The Agile Alliance was founded in 2001 by some of the original authors of the Agile Manifesto. It is best known for its central role in promoting and advancing agile principles and practices. Their work has had a significant impact on the spread of agility in software development and beyond.

Like PMI, the Agile Alliance is also a membership organization and has around 90,000 members according to its own website (Agile Alliance). In addition, as with PMI, many initiatives are driven by volunteers.

The Agile Alliance runs an annual global conference and is a central hub for academic research and case studies on agile methods, tools and practices to promote agility, as well as articles, videos and guides that are valuable for beginners and experts alike. It is known for its support of local and global agile communities and provides financial and organizational support for local meetups, chapters and agile days. It brings agile practitioners together and promotes the exchange of knowledge.

The Agile Alliance has launched major initiatives to further develop agile methods, such as “Beyond Software” to promote agility in other areas such as education, healthcare and public administration or “Modern Agile” to support new practices in the area of agility and agile leadership. The Agile Alliance is also known for its programs to support diversity and inclusion in agile teams and the sustainable development of software

The Agile Alliance is committed to preserving the original essence of agility. At a time when agile methods are often commercialized, the Agile Alliance stands for the core values:

  • Collaboration,
  • Customer Satisfaction,
  • Adaptability and
  • Continuous Improvement.

What does the alliance mean?

The agile movement has reshaped software and product development and profoundly changed project management practices, with its influence extending far beyond its origins. Effective project management requires the mastery of multiple methodologies that must be thoughtfully applied and/or combined to meet the specific requirements and context of a project.

Following the acquisition of PMO Global Alliance (PMOGA), Cognolytika in the field of AI, Project Managers without Borders (PMWB) to strengthen the social component of project management, the acquisition of Agile Alliance is another step to further strengthen PMI's position as the leading authority in the field of project-based working.

The merger of the two “global leaders” will improve access to agile resources and help to expand the skills of project managers and promote a flexible mindset. This will further strengthen the project management profession.
