250812 Collaborative Study of PMBOK Project Performance DomainsThe Community of Practice (CoP) Life Sciences is excited to announce the launch of a new collaborative work initiative. We’re kicking off at the end of August, and new members are always warmly welcome. After all, it’s only through sharing real-world experiences that we can shape the future of project management in the life sciences sector together. Join us!

Why are we doing this?

In our previous sessions this year, it became clear that our members are eager to dive deeper into the PMBOK® Guide framework—especially the 7th Edition. One question kept coming up: "What can we take away from PMBOK 7?"

The 7th Edition reflects the latest thinking in project management. It shifts from process-heavy guidance to a principle-based approach, focusing on outcomes, value delivery, and a flexible framework that works across different project types—including agile and hybrid environments. For our group, this makes it an ideal foundation. It allows us to tailor tools and techniques to fit the unique needs of the life sciences industry while defining common best practices.

What can you expect from the upcoming activities?

To prepare for the "tailoring" phase, we’ve planned collaborative learning sessions running from September to November. Here's how it works:

  • We plan to create small working groups, depending on the number of participants, to enable focused discussions and collaboration.
  • Each member will analyze one of the collected project profiles (refer to our previous post for details) using the Project Performance Domains from the PMBOK® Guide 7th Edition. Members will then present their findings to their group.
  • In November, we will host an event where each group will contribute to a joint final presentation to share their insights and what they’ve learned throughout the process.
  • The main working language will be English. However, depending on the preferences of group members, we may switch to German where appropriate to ensure everyone can contribute comfortably.
  • This approach will help us deepen our understanding of the 7th Edition, particularly the principles and performance domains, while also enabling us to connect them with real-life project experiences from our members. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn, share, and grow. We’re working to establish a strong and growing platform for project management in the life sciences sector and to build a topic-specific network within the PMI Germany Chapter.
