Social Responsibility is an initiative of PMI Germany Chapter e.V. – Members of the Chapter working as volunteers utilize their expertise and experience in project management to support projects with a social impact. We work closely with Project Managers Without Borders (PMWB) and other partners (see Projects and Project Partners).

These projects are from the following areas:
- Donate expertise for projects of non-profit organizations and NGOs
We support their project management or teach basics in project methodology. Frequently our support is requested to create a project plan or for coaching of the project team in difficult project situations. - Donate expertise for projects of schools
We support schools with the realization of difficult projects, where the expertise of experienced project managers is required, e.g. for projects with out-of-school project partners. - Social Mentoring: Provide project management expertise to organizations that help socially disadvantaged people in projects. Or directly to socially disadvantaged people (if the partner criteria are met, see below).
Offering
- We offer voluntary support in project management for non-profit organizations and schools that have no internal know-how to conduct these projects.
- We teach our project partners basic concepts for a structured project approach and the use of project management methods.
- Through our engagement, we help our project partners to achieve their project goals.
- Members of our chapter, who are ready to engage as a volunteer in a social purpose, can effectively use their expertise in project management.
- We provide an overview of the job profile of a project manager.
Project Candidates
PMI Germany Chapter e.V. is cooperating with project partners for its Social Responsibility Projects. This program focuses on projects with a social background (Project Management for Social Good). The projects are also expected to support at least one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) .
You are a good match if:
- You are a non-profit organization, an NGO or a school
- You are politically independent and not bound to a religion
- You are planning a comprehensive or mission-critical project, or you have already started a project and need help with it
The next steps are:
- Talk to us about the type and size of your project.
- We will check on the requirements and needed resources, usually in a workshop with your staff members.
- You decide if you want to engage with our chapter’s volunteers.
- We set up an agreement (Project Charter) for the voluntary support with roles, tasks, a project plan and the expected effort, as well as the required obligations on your side.
EPIZ Berlin & PMI Germany Chapter e.V. – Social Responsibility Cooperation
EPIZ Berlin (Link: EPIZ) and the PMI Germany Chapter have entered a cooperation: Through the Social Responsibility initiative of the PMI Germany Chapter, experienced project management volunteers support EPIZ in analyzing and restructuring its project work. The first step is to introduce a unified project management approach along with suitable tool support. Additional subprojects focusing on planning & resource management as well as collaboration & meeting processes are planned.

Support for a P-Seminar at the Upper Secondary Level of Carl-Orff-Gymnasium in Unterschleißheim
The P-Seminar at Carl-Orff-Gymnasium in Unterschleißheim is a project-based seminar for upper secondary students, designed to support career orientation. It spans several semesters and includes a weekly workload of two hours. Students work on application-oriented projects in cooperation with external partners to gain insights into academic and professional fields while reflecting on their own skills. One example is the development of teaching materials in the field of optics, using laser-optics kits and LEGO construction sets. Four volunteers from the PMI Germany Chapter e.V. support and accompany the project.
Maisha Bora e.V.: helping people to help themselves
Maisha Bora is a non-profit association that supports people in developing countries through needs-based infrastructure projects, currently with a focus on East Africa and Kenya. One of the focuses is on enabling basic needs such as access to clean drinking water and hygiene. The guiding principle of "helping people to help themselves" means that Maisha Bora works closely with the local people and actively involves them in planning and implementation. For the implementation of a new project in Kenya - "Borehole", a certain amount of project management expertise is necessary to coordinate the various stakeholders such as Engineers Without Borders, Maisha Bora and the local institutions. PM coaches are now also being sought for this.
Berliner Stadtmission: addresses the needs of the people of Berlin
With the Berliner Stadtmission, the Eastern Region has gained another project partner in the context of social responsibility. Working together since December of last year, two PM coaches from the PMIGC have supported the Volunteer Department in addressing numerous challenges related to process analysis and software selection. The Berliner Stadtmission has been addressing the needs of Berlin’s residents since 1877. Each year, approximately 2,000 volunteers help shape the organization’s work across a wide variety of projects, facilities, and church congregations.
New Project Partner: startsocial e.V.
Another collaboration is currently being established with startsocial e.V., a nationwide German organization supporting volunteer-driven social initiatives.
Founded in 2001 under the patronage of Germany’s incumbent Federal Chancellor, startsocial brings together professionals from business and civil society to strengthen social engagement through consulting, visibility, and recognition. Support is provided through consulting scholarships awarded to social initiatives.
The PMI Germany Chapter’s contribution focuses on two key activities:
-
A joint project management workshop at the beginning of the scholarship phase in November.
-
Coaching and mentoring support for selected scholarship recipients through members of the Chapter’s project management network.
