On February 22, the time had come. Under the leadership of Risa Inagaki, the kick-off meeting of the newly formed Community of Practice (CoP) Life Sciences took place. With 15 participants, it was a successful start overall.

At the meeting, the latest activities and current members were reported on and the basic principles and initial questions regarding the founding of the CoP were discussed.

As the members came from different areas of activity and also had different backgrounds of experience, there were initially difficulties in finding a common topic for discussion. It was therefore decided to conduct a survey to identify topics.

The survey results revealed that 96% of participants would be interested in networking and 74% in roundtable discussions. 60% of participants work in pharma, biotech and medtech and focus on R&D, PMO, change management and regulatory affairs. Over 60% of participants have more than 10 years of experience in project management.

In addition, a small brainstorming session was held to identify focus topics for future meetings. The following topics are to be addressed in the future:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Leadership and working with interdisciplinary teams
  • Minimum documentation in relation to regulatory requirements and timelines
  • Validation processes
  • Agile in the pharma/biotech industry
  • Line vs. project and program management matrix organization
  • Linien- vs. Projekt- und Programm-Management-Matrix-Organisation

Overall, the meeting was very productive and exciting. We look forward to exploring the focus topics in more depth together at our upcoming events.
