Dear chapter members and those interested in project management,
The year is drawing to a close - an opportunity to look back on our chapter activities in 2024 and look ahead to what awaits us in 2025.
What shaped our year 2024?
We now have 25 Local Groups across Germany, where physical and virtual project management events take place regularly. The chapter's local groups are the heart of our organization and form the basis for our activities. They stand for regional proximity, personal networking and practical exchange. In these groups, we not only live our values and goals, but also develop innovative ideas that advance project management at a local level. Members, volunteers and interested parties meet here to organize events, workshops and networking events together - a lively network that represents our chapter in all its diversity.
There are also a number of supra-regional offerings. Practical challenges are discussed in several Communities of Practice. Our initiatives Youth Empowerment Program, Women@PMIGC, Social Responsibility Projects, etc. are very popular and create value for the participants. A Mentoring Program helps to promote younger project managers and our Study Group Program supports candidates in preparing for certification exams.
In addition to the activities described above, we also held the Global Summit Series in Berlin in April, a Europe-wide congress organized by PMI with around 800 participants, as well as the Leadership Institute Meeting, a gathering of volunteers from all over Europe to share best practices in chapter management. A Student Hackathon took place the day before the congress. All events had a great, positive response. Many volunteers from the chapter supported the events. A review of the week in Berlin can be read here https://pmi-gc.de/news/1147-rueckblick-auf-eine-grossartige-pmi-woche-in-berlin
In November, we once again held our annual PM Summit in Munich organized by volunteers with around 160 participants. Following the event in Berlin in April, we deliberately made the PM Summit a little smaller. A short report on the highlights of this event, which was rated extremely positively by the participants, can be found here: Der PM-Summit 2024 – Von der Praxis für die Praxis.
We use our website, LinkedIn and our regular newsletter to keep you up to date with news from the association, the latest information from PMI and exciting developments from the world of project management.
Everything we do seems to be very well received. As already mentioned in one of the last newsletters, we have had a good influx of new members this year and are currently the fastest growing chapter in Europe. Since the beginning of the year, we have grown by around 500 members and now have over 3,900 members.
Overall, 2024 was a year full of exciting challenges, successes and enriching encounters for the PMI Germany Chapter. With great commitment, passion and team spirit, we have achieved a lot and set important milestones that have strengthened our community and given new impetus to our goals.
What are our priorities for 2025? - Preserve the tried and tested and set new accents with care!
With regard to our Local Groups, we want to further consolidate what we have achieved. Since the pandemic, local and regional events have not yet reached the number of participants we would like to see. We need to continue working on this. .
In the area of Communities of Practice (CoP), the existing ones will be continued. The newly founded CoP “Pragmatic multi-project management for SMEs” will begin its work in 2025. By taking over and integrating the PMO Global Alliance (PMOGA), we will also devote more attention to the topic of PMOs. The “PMOGA Community” will also begin its work in 2025. We are also in further discussions about the potential establishment of new communities of practice.
To promote the use of proven project management methodologies to make social, environmental and humanitarian projects more efficient and successful, PMI has adopted Project Managers Without Borders (PMWB). PMWB's mission is to provide project management expertise and resources to help non-profit organizations, communities and other initiatives implement sustainable solutions to global challenges. As part of our Social Responsibility Program initiative, we want to work with PMWB to offer members the opportunity to volunteer their project management skills for social causes.
We intend to continue the Youth Empowerment Program, our Study Group Program and the Mentoring Program in 2025.
To mark International Women's Day 2025, our Women@PMIGC initiative will organize the event series “From second row to Frontline: Take the Lead, seize the Moment”.
We want to intensify our relationships with organizations such as companies, partners and universities. PMI now has several offers, particularly in the area of universities, which we want to use to build new networks.
In addition to the many activities described above, the PM Summit will also be our annual highlight in 2025. We will meet on November 11 and 12, 2025 at the Empire Reverside Hotel in Hamburg. Further information can be found here: Nach dem PM-Summit ist vor dem PM-Summit – Sei dabei!
All in all, the year 2025 holds promising projects, new opportunities and certainly some exciting challenges in store for us. Let's continue on this path together.
At the end of the year, I would like to thank everyone who makes our PMI Germany Chapter so lively and successful:

At the end of the year, I would like to thank everyone who makes our PMI Germany Chapter so lively and successful:
- To our members, who create the foundation of our chapter with their membership - we wouldn't exist without you!
- To our sponsors, whose support enables us to advance our mission and create added value for the project management community.
- To all those interested in project management, who attend our events, follow our content and enrich our network.
- A special thank you to our volunteers, without whose commitment, ideas and cooperation our successes would not be possible - you are the backbone of the chapter and have once again done a great job in 2024! Thank you very much for that!
Thank you all for helping to make the PMI Germany Chapter the place where we grow, learn and help shape the future of project management together!
I wish all readers a jouyful holiday season, a peaceful end to the year and all the best for 2025.
Until then, Yours sincerely
Wolfgang Friesike
