Understanding Projectification: How It Shapes Our Work and Lives

Understanding Projectification: How It Shapes Our Work and Lives

The English Speaking Round Table Munich invites you to an online-event with a very special guest from Iceland to talk about projectification.

Audience: Professionals, managers, scholars, and anyone interested in the evolving role of project management in both organizational and personal contexts.

Most project management professionals are aware of the increasing need for formalized project management within organizations. However, not all are familiar with the term “projectification,” which describes this trend. Even fewer realize that projectification extends beyond organizations and is also found on larger scales, such as in societies, and on smaller scales, such as in personal lives.
Projectification is the growing trend of organizing work and personal tasks around project management principles. Driven by rapid technological advancements, globalization, and the need for greater efficiency, it is transforming how organizations operate to cope with the world’s increasing complexity. Moreover, it is also reshaping how individuals and families manage their everyday lives.
Halla Hinriksdóttir (she/her), whose recent research on projectification has been published in a peer-reviewed article and featured as a book chapter, will share her findings on how women in executive leadership roles experience this shift. Her research reveals that projectification is not only prevalent in the sectors these executives work in but also extends beyond the professional setting, influencing how they manage their personal lives. Women are increasingly applying project management principles to daily responsibilities like family management, household tasks, and social commitments.

Halla will provide insights into how projectification drives work environments to become more flexible, structured, and collaborative, while also shaping personal lives with the need for similar project structures. Her talk will highlight how this trend is reshaping modern life, demonstrating that as our world becomes more complex, project-based thinking becomes essential for navigating both professional and personal spheres.

Halla’s objectives are to:
Raise awareness: Highlight the growing impact of projectification in both professional and personal contexts, helping the audience recognize how it is reshaping our daily lives.
Share insights: Present key findings from her research on how projectification uniquely affects women in leadership roles, offering a fresh perspective on the challenges and opportunities it creates.

Encourage reflection: Inspire the audience to consider how they experience projectification and think critically about how to navigate this trend effectively.
Provide practical guidance: Offer practical advice and strategies for managing the effects of projectification to enhance efficiency, balance, and well-being
