Online event LG Darmstadt: Respecting Our Diversity in the Project Management Context - Mounir Ajam

We all agree that one-size-fits-all is not a proper mindset in project management. Yet, most of what we read and hear is often from a narrow perspective, specifically IT projects (software). Further, it is also often a more limited context: a service provider or the development team viewpoint. However, we say that there are no IT Projects. There are business projects with IT components.
If we expand our view, we say there are business projects with IT, HR, Marketing, Finance, Engineering, Construction, and Organizational Change Management components. Therefore, our diversity starts with understanding this context. In addition, realize that PM for service providers differs from project owners. Further, PM for capital projects also differs from technology-centric projects.
A lack of understanding of this context directly contributes to many debates on project management and projects and project management failures. We will share other factors contributing to failure, including common misunderstandings in the project management community.
Consequently, it is time to think differently, and we propose two concepts
(1) the levels of project management and
(2) advocating the need for value delivery-centric thinking for project owners.
