With this question, the four-part workshop series 'Strategic Alignment' of the new CoP IT Strategy in the PMI Germany Chapter kicks off on February 18, 2026, at 6:30 PM
This series is aimed at project, portfolio, and IT managers, as well as anyone working strategically at the interface between business and IT. Together, we will identify typical points of friction, discuss practical examples, and develop concrete solutions for effective IT strategies.
Artificial intelligence can support projects. But the difference between progress and standstill is still made by people. Even in the age of AI, project success depends largely on the power skills of project managers.
This is exactly where the PMI Germany Chapter comes in: the former General PM Community of Practice is being realigned and will continue as the Power Skills CoP. Its goal is to explore core competencies such as communication, collaborative leadership, problem-solving, and strategic thinking in depth and translate them into practical guidance for everyday project work.

This year, we would like to further expand our CoP Life Sciences in order to share even more valuable experiences, ideas and best practices. Our goal is to provide project managers in the life sciences sector with the best possible support in their daily challenges.
We will kick off our activities in 2026 with an online seminar on January 20, 2026.
Measuring the benefit of a well-managed project portfolio in hard numbers was a goal our Community of Practice set last year. The result? Not just one, but three approaches:
We can take a high-level perspective, estimate bottom-up, or build the calculation individually based on typical challenges.
The search for project partners for our social responsibility program is going well: The first NGOs and NPOs that support the UN's Sustainable Development Goals with their projects are already working with us. One project is currently being implemented and provides insight into how Chapter members are effectively using their project management skills for social projects.
Early, the Eastern Region of the PMI Germany Chapter had already found a partner in the EPIZ – Entwicklungspolitisches Bildungs- und Informationszentrum e. V., and now our Ambassador Social Responsibility Region East Thomas Sturm is on the verge of finding another project partner.
Under the theme “Thinking upstream. Shaping the future.”, the PM Summit 2026 invites project professionals to challenge established thinking and contribute to the future of project management.

I wish you all a healthy, happy, and successful New Year 2026 – filled with confidence, energy, and the courage to shape new ideas.
With December 2025, the PMI Germany Chapter has grown for the 20th consecutive month. This is a remarkable achievement and a strong signal that our community is relevant and attractive to many people. At the end of 2025, our Chapter had 4,827 members, making it – albeit by a narrow margin – the largest PMI Chapter in Europe. This growth does not happen by itself. It is the result of commitment and a vibrant community.
2026: A year full of opportunities – and a real turning point
The new issue of PMimpact, the magazine of the PMI Germany Chapter, has been published—and once again highlights how dynamically the field of project management continues to evolve. As the second issue after the relaunch, it builds on the “by members, for members” concept and combines practical insights, methodological expertise, and forward-looking trends into a compact, well-structured edition.
At the PM-Summit 2025, around 60 participants joined the workshop “Achieving Better Project Success with Power Skills and Artificial Intelligence” to explore how project management is evolving in an AI-driven world. The key insight was clear: AI can support us — but project success still relies heavily on the Power Skills of project managers. Based on the strong interest, the PMI Germany Chapter is reshaping the former General PM CoP into the new Power Skills CoP.
In today’s dynamic and ever-changing environment, risk management is more crucial than ever. The event focused on demands and vivid discussions about reforms of the social security systems, reducing bureaucracy, modernizing the state, and questions around education. The overall tenor: external influences and crises can only be shaped to a limited extent, but there are many areas within Germany’s control that we must tackle.
